Lutes
The lute has a head, neck and body with strings attached at both ends. Although the term “lute” is borrowed from English usage for an actual musical instrument in the European Renaissance period, it is used here in a generic way to refer to any chordophone which consists of a fingerboard and a resonator. Lute-types can be plucked and/or strummed (guitar, banjo, lute, mandolin, sitar, charango, etc.), or bowed (violin, cello, sringa, etc.).
