Metallophones/Xylophones
Metallophones consist of pieces of tuned metal bars, tubs, rods, bowls, or plates. While the xylophones consist of wooden bars. Sound is produced when the bars are struck with a mallet, but may also be activated by friction, keyboard action, or other means. Many metallophones/xylophones have resonators underneath each bar or an empty box to help amplify the sound when the bars are struck.
