Illinois is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States. Among instrument makers of note in Illinois are George Washburn Lyon and Patrick Healy who began a partnership in Chicago, Illinois back before the Civil War. The formed Washburn company has been building stringed instruments since 1883. Now an American institution, the Washburn company continues to build guitars, mandolins, banjos, and ukuleles.
