The Bambara people, also called Bamana, form the largest ethnic group within Mali and occupy the central part of the country, in an area of the savannah. They are predominantly animists, although recently the Muslim faith has been spreading among them. This side-blown brass trumpet/horn was possibly used for the Bamana “Komo Association.” The Komo society members harness the power “nyama” to aid members of the community.
