Lutes – Violin Family – Folk Fiddle
This all handcrafted folk fiddle possibly came from Poland. However, there is no label or a signature. The upper bout shows on each side a shoulder with short arm cut-out. The lower bout supports a closed raised foundation for the bridge. The tailpiece is in the shape of a fluke (whale tail). There are four metal strings with hand made tuning pegs and a backward carved scroll at the top of the peghead. The back is made from three pieces of wood.
This fiddle came from the Fred Spector collection of Chicago (Lincoln Park), Illinois. Fred played violin with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 47 years.
