Back of the head scroll is engraved: WAGNER

A late 19^th or early 20^th century violin with a hand carved Richard Wagner head as the scroll.  This violin originated from the Saxony (Germany) and (Schönbach) Bohemian (Czech) violin-making regions.  They were built as “trade violins,” which means they were crafted in workshops by multiple specialized makers rather than being the work of a single master luthier.  They were then sent to multiply catalogs or retailers to be sold, thus resulting with no maker labels. 

This violin is in excellent condition with a spruce top and two-piece maple back.  While there is no label inside, on the back of the head scroll is engraved: WAGNER.
