Lyres 2

Lyres

A lyre has two protruding arms extending out from the body.  The best way to describe a lyre is to visualize a large slingshot (or a large Y or U) that often has an added bar or piece of wood across its top.  This top piece is called a “yoke,” and it supports several strings that stretch downward into the middle of the Y or U where they are fastened.
