A Balinese wooden hand carved clapper bell. These bells suspended by a rope are used as ritual bells, possibly to repel evil spirits. Those that are not painted and somewhat larger and heavier, are used as cow bells to help keep track of the herd. This bell is carved from one piece of wood except for the two tongues. These dangling tongues serves as the bell clappers. On each side and on top of the bell are painted mythological characters.
