An embellished drum from the Baule people of the Ivory Coast, with incised abstract patterns of geometry design showing precision and balanced asymmetry throughout. This pegged-headed drum is carved from a single log. Just above the bottom is an elevated row/ring that shows half-body lizards joined together, and human faces, possibly representing ancestors inserted between the lizards/chameleons. Characteristic of the Baule drums are these traditional decorative motifs to be admired by the audience.
