A trumpet from the Bulu (Boulou) people of the south-central area of Cameroon, mainland Equatorial Guinea, and northern Gabon. The Bulu are one of three major subdivisions of the Fang. This well-carved trumpet depicts a squatting monkey-like figure with two coconuts in hands as a finial top. Both eyes are painted with white kaolin pigment. The blow-hole is in the center of the trumpet with artful carved grooves above and below along with partially shod sheets of brass. Skilled carving for art market.
