This Chokwe figural drum (ngoma) is kettle-shaped with ancestors carved in the resonator chamber on three sides with their mouths open. Throughout incised carving of geometric designs are also shown. The resonator chamber is supported by two anthropomorphic figures, each facing opposite directions with hands over their ears and elbows on their knees. Excellent detailed carving from one piece of wood. The drum head is attached with brass studs and copper braces nailed into the wood. Shows signs of usage and age. The word ngoma means drum in many cultures across Africa.
