This Simple system clarinet in ‘E flat’ is made of five stained boxwood sections with horn ferrules and mouthpiece. The five-keyed clarinet was the standard instrument of the Classical period. (Mozart wrote for the 5-Key Clarinet). Even though some Classical clarinets have sometimes more than five keys, they are based on this model. This boxwood clarinet is clearly marked “ES” three times. In German, “ES” designates E-Flat. The five brass round keys with flat flaps are mounted in knobs and square/bulbous rings.
