Wind Instruments – Brasswinds – Cornets / Cornopeans
This C. Bruno & Sons Cornet was most likely made by B&F (Bohland & Fuchs, Graslitz, Austria / Czechoslovakia). In the 1886 Bruno catalog, a page shows Pourcelle Bb cornets; another French sounding name that’s really not Marceau – Paris, was sold by Sears. They all appear to be B&F made.
The majority of instruments imported to the US do not have the B&F name on them. They may have been sold through Wm R Gratz in New York to retailers across the country who then added their own name on the bell. These are called stencil horns as seen here.
This stencil engraved Bruno, NY ‘Perfection’ cornet includes a split lyre with two tabs. There are two slides (Bb/C) and the original mouthpiece. Serial number 9448.
