This is a French made shepherd crook cornet with extensive engraving all along the extended top of the bell, around each joint connection, and the circular rings where the valves are connected to the bell. Engraving on the bell shows that it was made for US importer and brass instrument seller Lyon and Healy. Nevertheless, the company F. Jaubert & Cie is a bit of a mystery as to who actually made the instrument. This cornet is in pristine original condition and very playable. It has a single water key lever that splits to cover two openings.
After researching the information on John Patton, North Ft. Myers, FL Website ‘BRASS HISTORY’ and ‘HORN-U-COPIA’ informative websites, I believe this decorative engraved Bb cornet to have been made @ 1912.
