Anklet dance bells were used by ethnic groups in West Africa. Based upon style, this one was cast in brass possible by a Dan metal worker for the Guere or Wobe (Krahn people). The Krahn are an ethnic group of Liberia and Ivory Coast. This group belongs to the Kru language family and its people are sometimes referred to as the Wee, Guéré, Sapo, or Wobe. This anklet dance bell features nine hallow pellets decorated with spirals, each enclosing a single rattling object inside. A COA from Bruno Mignot, Arts Primitifs, Strasbourg, France, states it was made by the Dan people of the Ivory Coast.
