This Jerry Jones Master Model Electric Sitar Guitar was handmade by the Master himself sometime between 1990-1993 in Nashville, Tennessee, as indicated by the black and silver label on the lower back of the headstock and the Serial Number #0885. Before mid-1990s the SN was handwritten in black ink, and after mid 1993 the SN # was moved to a white label placed underneath the access panel on the rear of the guitar.
This Jones Master Model Electric Sitar Guitar is a clone of an original 1967 Vincent Bell Coral Sitar built by Danelectro but with much tighter construction and hand wound lipstick pickups made by Jerry Jones – two for the sitar and one for the 13-sympathetic string harp that can be tuned to any key or scale each with its own volume and tone control. The cool red “gator” finish, along with the clear plexiglass pickguard and tailpiece cover, gives the instrument a very psychedelic look.
The poplar wood frame is sandwiched between two pieces of masonite, leaving a hollow chamber. It has a 25-inch scale maple neck with a flat 14 1/2 inch radius Indian rosewood fingerboard. There are six-on-a-side Gotoh tuners, 21 medium jumbo frets, and an intonated “buzz bridge.”
As of April 2011, Jerry Jones retired and closed his Nashville factory. These Jerry Jones instruments are high quality and have now become quite collectable.
