A one-of-a-kind electric “Mythical Dream” guitar by artist Eric Larson, dated (c) 2007. This guitar features four assorted Pacific Northwest Coast Haida-style carved animals with abalone shell eyes, inspired by the work of Bill Reid (1920 – 1998).  It has no tuners on the headstock, instead, they are at the end of the bridge, which is stamped: TREMOLO BRIDGE LICENSED UNDER PATENTS. The guitar is in superb condition, designed to be fully functional while also serving as a beautiful piece of art to be displayed.

The artist writes: “The idea for my guitar came to me during a daydream.  I envisioned a guitar that had a vintage look with a Northwest Native style carved section looking more than vintage, almost ancient but well preserved.  Like a centuries old rattle.  I created my vision to look finely crafted but at the same time, provoke the idea that it could have been found at an ancient Shaman’s burial site, along with the rest of his ceremonial effects.  The carved section of the guitar was done in a stylized Haida design.

Although it looks like they are eating each other, this typically represents the sharing of spirits or the ability to change shape.  Even though the guitar is fully functional, it was created as a unique work of art, for display.”

Eric Larson is a self-taught artist.  When he was eight years old his grandmother gave him his first set of wood carving tools.  In time, Eric has become an accomplished and award-winning sculptor.
