This Herald trumpet, also called a Fanfare trumpet, is a long and graceful brass instrument with three valves for complete range.  It is similar to but longer than a regular trumpet.  Most tubing for the Bb Herald trumpet is the same length as a regular Bb trumpet but it’s not wrapped, however this Herald trumpet is one of the longest Herald trumpets ever made, measuring 54 inches from end to end. This is about a foot longer than most Herald trumpets. The extra length can also accommodate a small ceremonial banner, as it is equipped with rings for a pennant.

The Herald trumpet differs from its precursor, the medieval buisine, by being coiled rather than straight, and from the clarion trumpet and natural trumpet by having valves.

The three Herald trumpets seen in this collection were used by the Albany Symphony Orchestra in New York.
