This is a conical shaped Naga warrior’s hat, from the Kalyo-Kengyu ethnic group in Nagaland (Northeastern, India). It is made of woven cane (rattan) with yellow orchid stems, boar tusks, and red-dyed goat hair. It features a tall plume of red goat hair extending from the center front over the top and to the center back of the hat. Hanging from each side of the hat at the bottom edge, which is trimmed in dark brown, is a curved boar tusk. Overall, the hat is red orange in color with tan and dark brown plaited/woven decorations on either side. The Naga are expert in basketry, weaving, woodcarving, pottery, and metal work. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people growing rice, millet, and taro potatoes. They are very fond of dance and music, which are an essential part of their lives.
