Roan Antelope, leather, brass
ca. Mid-20th century
Length: 8.5 inches
Aerophone – Lip-Vibrated – Horn
Trumpet of the Lotuka (Latuka , Lotuho) People of Southern Sudan. This Roan Antelope horn/trumpet is clad in leather that has a smooth patina and rich texture, with a good sheen from usage and age. The end-blown brass mouth piece covering the tip of the horn, also has a nice old patina. This may instead be an edge-blown flute and the performer would blow across the edge of the brass mouthpiece, but it does come from the Lotuka people of southern Sudan.
