A Makonde ritual drum supported by three magical figures which have both zoomorphic and anthropomorphic bodies. Makonde drums are rare and this is a very old example. It shows clear signs of age and use. The drum head is intact and the instrument is still playable. The Makonde are best known for their masks representing human and animal characters.
