Friction Idiophones
When the instrument is made to vibrate by friction it is classified as a friction idiophone. Examples may include friction sticks, musical sandpaper blocks. (The difference in an “indirectly scraped idiophone,” is that with a friction idiophone, both objects are sonorous.)
