Tlicho

The Tłı̨chǫ people, sometimes spelled Tlicho and also known as the Dogrib, are a Dene First Nations people of the Athapaskan/Athabaskan-speaking ethnolinguistic group living in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Dene is the common Athabaskan word for “people.”  The Tlicho, is a Cree word meaning “dog’s rib,” and refers to their creation story.  The food sources for the Tlicho people include caribou, moose, hare, migratory waterfowl, and fish.  They practice oratorical skills, wisdom, and ‘medicine’ power (supernatural power through the aid of animal-spiritual beings) led by designated leaders.
