Other – Ritual Symbolism
A large processional Coptic cross with intricate designs. Crosses are among the most visual symbols and evidence of Christianity in Ethiopia. Small crosses are worn on chains around the neck by men and women as pendants and are often given as gifts at baptism. Large crosses such as this one, are mounted on a wooden pole and used in church processions by priests during religious ceremonies, or held by pilgrims during processions.
