This traditional African instrument is a lamellophone or ilimba with sixteen (16) metal keys (lamellas). It was handmade in Tanzania and was field collected by David Stiffler. Small pieces of metal (soda can tin) are wrapped around the lamellae to create a buzzing sound when the metal tongue is played. Signs of usage and age are present. The leather strap was added so that the performer could carry it with them during the day.
