This is a Thai gong called khong meng that is used both as a signaling device and is played in traditional parades with the klong yao (drum). It is a hand-hammered bronze gong with a boss raised in the center and is suspended and played by striking it horizontally. Here the klong meng stand is carved out of wood in the shape of an elephant, the official national emblem of Thailand. It is struck in the center on the boss with a mallet covered on one end in leather.
