This is possibly a Tonga nyele, made from an antelope horn. The horn players blow across the edge of the opening at the bottom of the horn. Thus, this is an edge-blown flute and not a lip vibrator. When played during ceremonial dancing, they usually start up with a wild array of pitches which seems to be a random cacophony of sound and yet is the carefully composed and orchestrated ancient ceremonial music of the Tonga people of the Zambezi Valley (northern Matabeleland), known as the Ngoma Buntibe. The nyele are commonly played with the Budima (funeral) drums and are not played alone. They range in size from 5 inches to 18 inches long.
