The Couesnon company was started in 1827 by Amedee G. Guichard, located outside Paris. In 1835 he was joined by his brother-in-law Pierre Gautrot, who became the proprietor of the business in 1845. In 1882 it becomes Gautrot et Cie under the directorship of Amedee G. Couesnon, the son-in-law of Gautrot Aine. The name changed again in 1888 to Couesnon et Cie. Their instruments were highly sought after by professionals. During the 1930s they focused on marching brass band instruments and became the main supplier for brass bands in France.
