Kotoko

The Kotoko people are a Chadic ethnic group located in northern Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria. Their population is composed of approximately 90,000 people of which the majority live in Cameroon.  Their mother tongue is Lagwan. Most of the Kotoko are Sunni Muslims, but some belong to other Islam sects. Only slightly more than 10% of the population is Evangelical.   The modern Kotoko, a fishing people on the Chari near Lake Chad, are descendants of the Sao, who formerly lived in the region.
