Struck Membranophones 2

Struck Membranophones

Struck Membranophones include two basic types, those that are directly stuck and those that are indirectly struck.

Directly struck membranophones include drums struck by a non-sonorous striker, which may include skin-head drums played with a stick(s), mallet(s), or hand(s).

Indirectly struck membranophone produce a cluster of sound with no perceived individual stroke.  They include instruments which are “shaken,” the membrane being vibrated by objects inside the drum (rattle drums).
