This is a Hermann Wrede 6-square brass keyed clarinet in “C”, made of boxwood and ivory. The springs are attached to keys mounted in blocks. “The New Langwill Index” lists Hermann Wrede as “Music Instrument Maker” beginning in 1811. This 6-Keyed Clarinet in “C” with markings of address, name, and the unicorn logo, indicates that it was made between 1812-1829, when Wrede was located at 15 St. John’s Square and Clerkenwell, in London, England.  Martin Kranz of St. Louis Woodwind and Brass – St. Louis, has done conservative work on this clarinet to playing condition.
