This 5-keyed boxwood with ivory ferrules clarinet in “C” was made by Asa Hopkins (1779-1838). The brass keys with flat, square key covers have springs attached to the keys mounted in blocks. Hopkins began his career as a clockmaker from @ 1810-1825. Then he began making musical instruments in 1829. Hopkin’s shop was located along Naugatuck River between 1829 – 1837. Asa partnered with J. M. Camp in 1832 and retired in 1837.
