David C. Hall was an accomplished keyed bugler and band-leader of the Boston Bass Band.  In 1861, he joined with Joseph Lathrop Allen in the production of rotary valve band instruments. In 1862 he established himself independently as “D.C. Hall.” Then, in 1865-1869 he partnered with Benjamin F. and George W. Quinby as “Hall & Quinby” (see Hall & Quinby Upright Alto Horn in this collection). This all original TARV (top-action-rotary-valve) with reinforced rim on on the bell,  is of the Civil War period.  It has three lead-in tuning pipes and an original MPC.
