Idiophone – Struck Indirectly – Shaken -Rattle
A basketry woven rattle of rattan fiber from the Igbo people of Nigeria. The round bottom is traditionally cut from a dried gourd. This is an indirectly struck idiophone and is played along with other Igbo idiophones such as the ‘ekwe,’ (slit drum). It is used as a musical instrument and contributes to the Igbo traditional polyrhythmic style of music.
