Drums, Idiophones
Idiophones without a skin drumhead are often referred to as a drum. They are played with sticks or hands. There are variations of wooden drums, some are known as slit drums, others are simple hollowed out wooden boxes. Some can mimic the tones of human speech and are used to transmit messages over long distances. They are also used to play and accompany music.
For Oceanic / Pacific we are also including gourd drums, such as the ipu and ipu heke.
