A Hopi gourd rattle with a beautiful polychrome painted brick design.  The gifting of a gourd rattle is a spiritual tradition for the Hopi, as it is highly symbolic.  This Hopi gourd rattle represents the three kingdoms in Native American culture.  The gourd and handle represent the plant kingdom; the feather on top represents the animal kingdom; and the small rocks inside represent the mineral kingdom.  The use and value of the rattle can range from a musical instrument for dance and celebration, to spiritual understanding.
